When a forced air system stops working, you've got a decision to make. Repair it, replace it, or go a completely different direction. For this Crosslake home, we went a different direction - a full conversion to ductless mini splits.

We chose one-way ceiling cassette units for this space, and here's why that matters. High wall units are the most common mini split option you'll see, but they're not always the best fit. In a room with a beautiful wood ceiling like this one, a wall unit would stick out and eat up wall space. A ceiling cassette tucks right in, sits flush, and practically disappears into the room. The finished look is clean and intentional.

Ceiling cassettes also distribute air differently. Instead of blasting from one point on a wall, they push air in a controlled direction across the room. That means more even comfort, fewer hot and cold spots, and better use of the system overall. For a lake home where the goal is to actually enjoy the space, that's a real difference you'll notice.

The old forced air system was non-functional, so we removed it and built out the ductless solution from the ground up. That's what ductwork modification and removal work looks like in practice - not just swapping equipment, but rethinking how the whole system works. Mini splits give you that flexibility. No ductwork, zoned control, and efficient operation year-round.
